Accessibility Statement

1. Our Commitment

BREEDER MAGIC believes that the joy of indoor gardening should be open to everyone, and that starts with a store everyone can actually use. We are committed to making our website usable by people of all abilities — including customers who rely on screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, magnification, captions, or high-contrast settings — whether they are browsing ceramic planters, comparing LED grow lights, or reading a repotting guide. Accessibility at BREEDER MAGIC is not a one-time project; it is a standing responsibility woven into how we design, write, build, and test.

2. Our Conformance Target: WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Our target standard is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. WCAG defines how to make web content more perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for people with a wide range of disabilities. We consider our site partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA: most content and functionality meet the standard, while some portions described in the "Known Limitations" section below do not yet fully conform. We treat every gap as work in progress, not an accepted state.

3. Measures We Take

Accessibility is built into our workflow rather than bolted on afterward. Concretely, we:

  • Include accessibility review in the design and copywriting stage of every new page and campaign;
  • Test new templates with keyboard-only navigation and at least one screen reader before launch;
  • Check color combinations against WCAG contrast thresholds whenever the palette is extended;
  • Train the team members who write product descriptions and upload imagery on plain language and alternative text;
  • Track reported accessibility issues in the same queue as functional bugs, with the same priority rules.

4. Semantic Structure and Keyboard Navigation

Our pages are built with semantic HTML: meaningful heading hierarchies, landmark regions, real buttons and links rather than clickable decoration, and labeled form fields at checkout and in our contact form. Every interactive element — navigation menus, product option pickers, quantity steppers, the cart drawer, and the search field — is reachable and operable with a keyboard alone, in a logical focus order, with a visible focus indicator styled in moss green so it stands out against our ivory background. A skip link lets keyboard users bypass repeated navigation and move straight to the main content of each page.

5. Images and Alternative Text

Product photographs carry descriptive alternative text that conveys what matters for a purchase decision — for example, noting a planter's glaze finish and drainage hole, or the mounting style of a grow light — rather than generic file names. Purely decorative imagery, such as background botanical textures and the large translucent word behind this page's title, is marked so assistive technologies skip it. Where information appears in an image (such as a sizing chart for plant supports), we provide the same information as text on the page.

6. Color, Contrast, and Typography

Our palette of deep green text on ivory and soft green backgrounds was chosen with contrast in mind, and body text is set at a comfortable size with generous line spacing. We do not rely on color alone to convey meaning: sale prices, stock states, form errors, and required fields are always accompanied by text or icons with text equivalents. Text can be resized up to 200 percent in the browser without loss of content or functionality, and the layout reflows for zoom and small screens without requiring horizontal scrolling of body text.

7. Motion and Animation

We use gentle motion — such as sections fading upward as you scroll — to give the site a calm, organic feel. All of it is designed to be subtle, none of it flashes, and all of it respects your operating system's "reduce motion" preference: when that setting is enabled, animated transitions on our pages, including the scroll animations on this very page, are disabled and content appears immediately. Carousels and any auto-advancing content can be paused, and no content on our site flashes more than three times per second.

8. Known Limitations

In the spirit of honesty, here is where we currently fall short:

  • Photo-heavy layered layouts. Some editorial and lookbook pages layer photographs and text for visual effect. In a few of these compositions, reading order and text-over-image contrast are not yet ideal for all users; we are reworking them template by template.
  • Horizontal scroll sections. Certain collection showcases scroll horizontally. These sections include a keyboard-accessible alternative — arrow-key support plus previous and next buttons — and the same products are always reachable through the standard shop grid, but the pointer-drag experience is still smoother than the keyboard one.
  • Older blog imagery. A small number of early blog posts predate our current alternative-text standards; we are back-filling descriptions as we audit archives.

If any of these limitations blocks you from completing a task, contact us and we will help you directly and prioritize the underlying fix.

9. Ongoing Audits and Improvements

We run automated accessibility scans across the storefront on a recurring schedule and pair them with manual audits — keyboard passes, screen reader walkthroughs of the browse-to-checkout journey, and zoom testing — at least twice per year and after any significant redesign. Findings are logged, prioritized by user impact, and folded into our development cycles. This statement is reviewed and updated whenever an audit completes or a substantial change ships, and the "Last Updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.

10. Third-Party Content and Services

Parts of the shopping experience rely on third-party services — the Shopify checkout, payment providers described in our Payment & Billing Policy, embedded review widgets, and shipment tracking pages linked from our Shipping & Delivery Policy. We choose vendors with published accessibility commitments where possible, and we pass reported problems along to them, but we cannot fully control the accessibility of content we do not build. If a third-party component blocks you, tell us; we can usually complete the same task with you another way.

11. Feedback: We Want to Hear From You

Your experience is the most valuable audit we have. If you encounter a barrier anywhere on our site — a control you cannot reach by keyboard, an image without a useful description, text that is hard to read, or anything else — please write to us at the plain-text email address below. It helps if you can tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using, but partial reports are welcome too. We aim to acknowledge every accessibility message within five business days, and we will work with you until the task you set out to do is done.
